Day 3 - Hiking around the lake and views of Queenstown

We weren't quite sure what this day would bring. The weather forecast told us of an impending thunderstorm and we didn't quite know what the half day walk we booked would entail.

At 8am we were picked up by Carl from Guided Walks and after picking up another girl from Germany we made our way around the lake shore, stopping at some great lookout points and then at a trail head where our walk would start. By that time it was lightly drizzling, so we were equipped with rain jackets and we also had umbrellas at hand. And of course you need a proper walking stick!

The trail we walked is not really a public trail, so it is not maintained and only really used by this company. It used to be an old bridal trail, very steep at times and narrow too. So we had to walk really really carefully.

Some of the views:

It was a really enjoyable hike and Carl pointed out many of the interesting plants and birds living around here. We had a little break with tea and cookies as well, cookies from "Cookie Time", Simone's latest favourite brand.

We got back to Queenstown around lunch time and it was raining properly by now, so we had to find something we could do. We decided to grab some burgers at Fergburger, they are famous in Queenstown and there is usually a wait involved. We placed our order and about half an hour later we picked up our burgers. We both had the same actually, the Mr Big Stuff (1/2lb beef topped with cheddar, streaky bacon & BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion and aioli).

One of my top 5 burgers for sure, very yummy and extremely messy, like it should be. It's about 5 inches across, so you definitely need two hands to eat it.

After lunch we took a gondola up the mountain and enjoyed some fantastic views of the Queenstown area, mountains and lake.

Up there was also a candy shop and they had a cool Lord Of The Rings poster, made out of jelly beans!

Another day gone by, and we're now planning on what we'll do tomorrow.
